What magicians refer to as Aristocrats trace their history to the American Banknote Company. They only produced playing cards for a short period but were famous for their superbly intricate scrollwork. ABN sold out to the Russell Card Co. (no relation to the Russell of Russell & Morgan). Production of the ABN cards continued at the Russell Co.’s Milltown, New Jersey plant. The Aristocrat line was introduced in approximately 1915 and was produced until the early 1980s.
The USPCC recently resurrected this old back design and are producing them again. The new versions use a different shade of red and blue on the backs and the face cards, but still have that classically beautiful scrollwork design.
